Youth Leadership & Prevention Summit
The Youth Leadership & Prevention Summit was held on Monday, December 10, 2018. The day started with youth from various schools getting off their buses and forming lines to get checked into the Summit. Followed by a Continental Breakfast and a General Session. During that general session youth were provided with a welcome and some brief remarks from Community Health Network, the Mayor’s Office, and IMPD Chief of Police. Then everyone took a Pre-Poll, were provided with logistics for the Summit, and given general instructions on how the day would go. After that the first Break Out Sessions began and students were separated by the workshops they had previously chosen. The workshops were; Bringing the oasis to the desert!, Conflict Resolution/Management, Educational Justice, Programs for Reducing Violence, the Past and Future, Should I Tell?, Writing for Social Justice, and Youth Entrepreneurs. The first workshop lasted a hour and ten minutes. Then youth had a brief passing period. Followed by the second Break Out Session which consisted of the same workshops and only lasted a hour and five minutes. Next another brief passing period. Followed by another General Session that included Lunch, a Post-Poll, and Tabletop Action Plans. Lastly was Wrap Up and Dismissal where everyone was thanked and the youth from various schools boarded their buses and left.
