#TeamUpforPeace campaign wraps up for high school basketball teams

During the 2022-2023 high school basketball season, 16 Indianapolis area teams participated with this ongoing campaign that challenged young people to team up for peace and choose positive alternatives to gun violence. 

Through peer-to-peer engagement players used their influence to promote violence
free schools and neighborhoods by wearing warm jerseys with the message before games.

“The Talks” girl group take a Black history lesson trip to Ohio

STVI is at KIPP Legacy high school weekly for the “TALKS” program where they are trusting the process through vulnerability, truth, and transparency! Over the weekend, they went on a day trip to Ohio to discover and discuss history. The explored their heritage and visited the National Underground Railroad.

Community violence intervention (CVI) offers recommendations for Indianapolis

Stop the Violence Indianapolis, Inc. was on a Zoom call with the mayor of Baltimore, Newark and Baton Rouge to discuss the use of new techonology that gives recommendations for a city to fight back against violent crime. Indianapolis was used an example for the Community Violence Intervention (CVI)

Stop the Violence presentation for Elevate Indianapolis

STVI along with Dr. Valerie McCray from Reset Psychological Services presented to Elevate Indianapolis on the principals of leadership coaching: content free practice and technique. The training gave Elevate staff important considerations when trying to help their audiences, urban youth in Indianapolis.

“The TALKS Identifying the Mirror in ME” 2020 Retreat

The TALKS Retreat will be an overnight camp held from July 20th-24th, 2020 that teaches young ladies 12-16 years of age self-awareness, self-worth, and self- respect! It will include Team Building Activities, Workshops, Guests Speakers and much more! It is free to participate (There is a $25 application processing fee). Stop the Violence Indianapolis and Pacer Foundation “Leadership Together Conference

Monday April 8th, 2019 at Bankers Life the “Leadership Together Conference” will be held from 8:30 am- 1:30pm. It will start with a Check In and the students Visiting Vendor Booths, then they will be served a Continental Breakfast, followed by a General Session and Welcome, Next will be a Youth Led Panel Presentation and Discussion, followed by Lunch and a Tabletop Discussion, and lastly Wrap Up and Dismissal.

The Scholar 2 Scholar F.U.N Program is a PRIVATE EVENT for KIPP students that will be teaching them how to properly save, spend, and borrow. Classes will be held in the months of March, April, and May. The first three sessions will be held on  March 6, March 13, and March 20 from 3:20 to 4:30 pm.

Youth Leadership & Prevention Summit

The day started with youth from various schools getting off their buses and forming lines to get checked into the Summit. Followed by a Continental Breakfast and a General Session. During that general session youth were provided with a welcome and some brief remarks from Community Health Network, the Mayor’s Office, and IMPD Chief of Police. Then everyone took a Pre-Poll, were provided with logistics for the Summit, and given general instructions on how the day would go. After that the first Break Out Sessions began and students were separated by the workshops they had previously chosen. The workshops were; Bringing the oasis to the desert!, Conflict Resolution/Management, Educational Justice, Programs for Reducing Violence, the Past and Future, Should I Tell?, Writing for Social Justice, and Youth Entrepreneurs. The first workshop lasted a hour and ten minutes. Then youth had a brief passing period. Followed by the second Break Out Session which consisted of the same workshops and only lasted a hour and five minutes. Next another brief passing period. Followed by another General Session that included Lunch, a Post-Poll, and Tabletop Action Plans. Lastly was Wrap Up and Dismissal where everyone was thanked and the youth from various schools boarded their buses and left.
